Steeped in history, The Old Village on Modderfontein near Citrusdal, is one of the few remaining authentic farm villages in South Africa. The historic buildings were painstakingly restored by present owner, Mike Stekhoven. At the same time, the neglected farm was converted to organic principles, producing organic citrus fruit, rooibos tea, buchu and cattle. Well worth a visit, the farm offers self-catering accommodation in charming period cottages, an atmospheric country restaurant and pub and even has an art gallery on site. Situated off the N7 to Namibia, the Old Village is the ideal base from where to explore the Cederberg and the wild flowers of Namaqualand.
